Mr. Eddie W. Simon, 82, of Greensboro, died Monday, April 9, 2018 at his home following an extended illness. A memorial service will be held Friday, 2:00 p.m., at St. Andrews Episcopal Church by Rev. B.J. Owens. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the parish hall. Eddie was born August 6, 1935 in Greensboro, the son of William Simon and Athena Gabriel Simon. He was a graduate of Greensboro Senior High School in 1953 and attended Guilford College majoring in Economics and Marketing. In 1957, Eddie, along with his family, opened Laurie’s, a women’s fashion apparel business, in the Friendly Shopping Center. Eddie was a former President of the Friendly Center Merchants Association and was a board member for the Greater Greensboro Merchants Association. Additionally, he served as a board member of the action group for the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce on community planning and development. Following retirement, Eddie followed his interest in real estate development. He was a lifelong member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church and enjoyed classical music (piano), chess, gourmet cooking, astronomy, photography and the restoration of older homes. Eddie was very proud of his family and his enthusiasm for life was contagious. He will truly be missed by those he loved. In addition to his parents, Eddie was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred and Marshall Simon and his young grandson, Sam Furman. My sympathy to all of the family. I worked at Laurie's in Friendly Shopping Center many years ago. It was actually 1972-1973, about a year. I was young (24 yrs old) at the time and I worked upstairs at the reception desk. I have always had fond memories of Ed, Marshall, and Laurie. I appreciated them giving me an opportunity to work there. They were so kind and helpful to me. Their work ethic was second to none and their respect for their employees was indeed a treasure. I went on to earn my Certified Professional Secretarial Rating and have always felt my job at Laurie's provided a wonderful stepping stone to my career. Rest in peace, my friend.

I grew up in Mayodan,N.C. When I was little, I can still remember Eddie and Marshall Simon selling clothes door-to-door. With a stay at home Mom with three little girls, it was a treat when one of them came knocking at the door!!!!!! Always friendly and kind....Mama and/or Daddy would ask them if they would like tea or coffee!!!!! When I was old enough, my sisters and I would shop at Laurie's........a fond childhood memory! Sincere sympathy to you and your family. Carolyn Pendergraft Ferguson. Stoneville.N.C.
