Edwin Blackwell III

With the joyful expectation of seeing his parents and his Savior, Jesus Christ, Mr. Edwin Harrison “Bucky” Blackwell, III died at his residence on September 10, 2016. A service to celebrate his life will be at 2 PM on Thursday, September 15 at Guilford College United Methodist Church with Pastor Tom Gibson officiating.

Bucky, as close friends and family knew him was the eldest child of the late Edwin H. and Marjorie Hayes Blackwell Jr. He adored his parents, and approximately ten years ago moved to Greensboro from Jacksonville, NC to care for them until their passings. He received his B.A. from UNC-CH and his J.D. from the University of South Carolina. He worked tirelessly as an advocate for children and attorney for social workers to protect and nurture the needs of children. Bucky spoke so highly of his work associates whom he met while practicing law in Onslow County who became his friends over the years. His caring and compassionate character was just who he was. His easy going nature, talent to tell a great story and ability to enjoy a practical joke made him endearing to others and he will also be remembered for his gift of being a wonderful and engaged listener with an impeccable memory. Music and reading were two of his eclectic passions of which he was an avid collector. He loved Boston Terriers and was a fan of all UNC-CH sports.

He is survived by his siblings, Lynn Angel of Stokesdale, Scott Blackwell and Steven (Mary) Blackwell both of Greensboro and David Blackwell of Hamilton, VA; seven nieces, one nephew, one great niece; and one great nephew. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Ric Angel and niece, Sarah Angel.

Bucky’s family would like to thank all his personal caregivers, neighbors and friends in Jacksonville and Greensboro who gave of themselves to care for a man who gave to so many. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Guilford College UMC, of which Bucky was a member, located at 1205 Fleming Road, Greensboro, NC 27410.
