Elaine and Orlando moved to North Carolina in 1998. After the loss of her husband, Elaine moved back to Sunnyvale in 2004, where she was an active member of the Sociedad Cervantes Espanola and the Spanish-America Club where she was chairman of events. She loved to travel and visited family in Spain and loved going on cruises to various ports around the world.

During her time as a busy wife and mother, Elaine also made time to work. Her various positions included and one of the most enjoyable was Assistant Manager at Saratoga Lanes Bowling Alley, where she had each of her 5 children on a bowling team. She was a Manager at Mariani's restaurant in Santa Clara and spent 20 years as an accounts payable administrator at Cupertino Electric where she retired in 1995.
