A memorial service will be held for Libbie Ball on February 14 at 1pm at West Market Street United Methodist Church, Greensboro, NC.
Libbie (Elizabeth, Sister Ann, Mom, Granny Sis) was the youngest daughter of Harry and Hazel Viall and grew up in Barbourville, KY. Libbie married her Barbourville High School sweetheart Bill Ball and raised three boys, Col. Robert L. Ball (USA Ret.), married to Sally Spears Ball of Greensboro, Richard T. Ball, married to Debbie Dale Ball of Greensboro and Rev. Dr. Barry D. Ball, married to Bishop Sandra Steiner Ball of Mars, Pennsylvania.
Libbie grew up in Barbourville playing at the Viall Lumber Yard. It was a common sight in high school to see Libbie guiding Bill through town towards the river as Bill carried a canoe over his head. Libbie was an active long-time member of First United Methodist Church of Barbourville. After marriage Libbie began raising three boys and moving every few years through Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, Virginia, and North Carolina following Bill’s career with the Internal Revenue Service. After the boys were out of the house Libbie began her career with the IRS as a Bankruptcy Specialist.
No matter what town Libbie was living in, she became an active member of a United Methodist Church. It was through her church activities that she developed lifetime friendships in multiple towns across the south. Libbie was a very active members of West Market Street UMC for many years until her health simply did not allow her to get to her pew.
Libbie was preceded in death by her sisters Katsy Viall Wilson (Evans) and Blanche Viall Purcell. Libbie is survived by her three sons, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the very caring staff at Twin Lakes Retirement Community who have truly cared for Mom.
