Emma Gwen Guthrie McClure

Gwen was born on June 27, 1921, in Alamance County, NC, the daughter of James C. and Tacy Woody Guthrie. She was the loving wife of William H. McClure, Jr. and a devoted mother, grandmother, and sister. Known to many as “Nanny,” her family was her pride and joy. Gwen was also a faithful member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church for over 60 years and a founding member of the Pinecroft-Sedgefield Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Gwen was preceded in death by her husband in 1986, and daughter, Carol Brewer, in 1980. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Rebecca Riggs and husband Roy of Greensboro, NC, Brenda Bergantz and husband Art of St. Charles, MO, Karen McClure and Steve Clayton of Snow Camp, NC, and Larry McClure and wife Mary of Kingsport, TN; brother, Hugh Woody Guthrie of Alamance County, NC; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, 2:00 p.m. at St. Andrews United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Guilford Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.
