A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, 4:00 p.m., at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Chapel. Friends will be received immediately prior to the service from 3:00-4:00 p.m.
Mr. Knight, of Kernersville, owned and operated Ernest Knight Realty in Greensboro. Ernie was born June 20, 1942 in Rockingham County to Ruth and Ernest Knight Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Jane, children, Andy and Debby, and step-sons Kenan, and Colton, and three grandchildren, Ariana, Nyssa, and Zachary, and brothers Kenneth and Charles.
Early in life, Ernie developed a love of bluegrass music. This musical interest led him to lifelong friendships with many of the greats of early bluegrass. He helped promote music festivals and had a considerable library of interviews and recordings dating back to one of his first jobs at WLOE radio in Eden, NC where Ernie started in broadcasting.
Ernie also pursued public relations and eventually established Ernest Knight Public Relations. He worked at the internal communications department for Burlington Industries. For a brief time he owned and operated The Silver Dollar Club in Greensboro during the 1970's.
Eventually, Ernie started his real estate firm in the late 1970's which manages properties for multiple owners in Guilford and Rockingham counties.
The family requests that contributions be made to the Earl Scruggs Library in Shelby, NC for the continued preservation of traditional bluegrass music or to the Blue Ridge Music Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
