Greensboro-Mr. Ervin Dale “Little Rock” Thompson, 62, died unexpectedly at High Point Regional Hospital on April 19, 2014. A celebration of his life will be at 8 PM, Wednesday, April 23, at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield chapel, officiated by Reverend Delbert Hill. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:45 PM prior to the service.
Dale was born in Sandford the son of Martha Thompson who preceded him in death. He has been employed at Martin Marietta, Jamestown quarry for 41 years and considered his co-workers his second family. He lived a full life, just too short. He will be remembered as a person who didn’t know a stranger, would help anyone out and was a straight shooter. He was honest, meaning what he said and saying what he meant. Dale was a generous father, brother, uncle and friend. He loved fishing, working on cars, and cooking out all the while usually talking about anything and everything to whoever shared time with him. His children were his world. He was a patient and loving father and even when discipline was necessary he did so out of love. He didn’t sweat the small stuff and just took life as it came and made it look easy. He leaves his children a legacy of the value of hard work and that family comes first.
He is survived by his children, Christy (Mike) Bierd of Fort Lupton, CO and Randy (Rachael) Thompson of Crestview, FL; grandchildren, Dustin Reynolds, Beth Bierd, Derrick Reynolds, Courtland Bierd, Dakota West, and Dylan Thompson; great grandson, Isaiah Reynolds; siblings, Shirley (Gene) Browning, Sid (Carolyn) Thompson, Rudy (Frankie) Mobley, his twin sister Gail (Larry) Cline, J.D. (Linda) Thompson; several nieces and nephews; and extended family, Doug (Darlene) Littreal and their children, Crystal and April. In addition to his mother he is preceded in death by siblings, Roland Thompson and Alice Mae Hall.
