
Eugene Anthony “Tony” Chase, Jr., 76, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2024 in Burlington, North Carolina. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late Alma Charlotte (Tielker) and Eugene Anthony Chase on October 17, 1947. Tony graduated from Concordia Lutheran High School in Fort Wayne in 1965 and later graduated from IUPUI. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and while stationed at Fort Belvoir in Fairfax County, Virginia, Tony met his wife, Jane Hatfield Chase. After graduating from Engineer Office Candidate School in 1970, Tony served in Vietnam with the 26th Engineers of the 23rd Infantry unit 1972. For many years thereafter, he served in the Reserves. In his civilian life, Tony had a fulfilling career as a mechanical engineer with International Harvester, Volvo Trucks North America and Navistar, Inc.
Tony’s wife of 50 years, Jane Hatfield Chase, predeceased him in 2021. He is survived by his son, James Anthony Chase (Margaret), his two grandsons, James Henry Chase and John Dalton Chase, all of Greensboro, North Carolina; his sister, Charlotte Hixson, of Fort Wayne; his brother, Byron Chase (Linda), of Hartford City; his brother in law, Daniel Hatfield (Kathie), of Knoxville, Tennessee; and his nieces and nephews.
The Chase family gratefully acknowledges the excellent and loving care Brookdale of Eden, North Carolina provided to Tony and as well as end-of-life care Tony received through AuthoraCare Collective and its Hospice Home in Burlington in North Carolina.
