Fletcher W. “Jack” Ray was greeted by his Savior, Jesus Christ and reunited with his true love, Katheryn A. Ray on October 20, 2018. His mind and body are again perfect. He passed away surrounded by his sons. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be at 11 AM, Wednesday, October 24 at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield chapel, officiated by Pastor Trevor Reid, followed by interment with military honors in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday, October 23 at the funeral home.
Jack was born in Henry County Virginia to the late Robert H. and Elsie Smith Ray, Sr. From 1945 to 1947 he served in the US Army. He spent a career spanning more than 35 years with Western Electric/AT&T in various positions including machinist, tool & die maker, mechanical engineer and IT inspector. He was a long standing member of Western Electric Pioneer Club and Communicator Workers of America Union. Jack wore many hats during his life but no responsibility surpassed that of being a loving husband and father. He was a devout Christian and knew that a solid foundation in Christ provided for a strong family and his family was all there was in this world to Jack. He reared his sons to know that he was always there for them. He was the leader in his home and a strict no nonsense father but wore a velvet glove over the iron fist. Jack, Randy and Eric remember walks after dinner when Jack would teach them about nature and animals. He loved to read, especially learning about history which he also shared with the boys. His friends will remember his dry sense of humor and jokes peppered with sarcastic wit. He understood and valued hard work and was thrifty only because he wanted to provide a future for the family he loved so much. Jack loved to travel with his sweetheart Katheryn. Since 1989 he has been a member of The Church of God of Prophecy.
Jack leaves behind his three sons, Randy, Jack and Eric Ray all of Greensboro; grandchildren, Ryan, Davis and wife Ally, Tia, Josh and Jessica; and great granddaughter, Bailey. His precious Katheryn to whom he was married for sixty years and his siblings preceded him in death.
