Florine Davenport Everton

A memorial service will be held Friday October 2, 2026 at 11am in the chapel at First Presbyterian Church, 617 N. Elm Street, Greensboro, NC 27401. A reception will follow the service at the church. The memorial service will be livestreamed and available for viewing on fpcgreensboro.org .

Flo was born May 29, 1936 in Columbia, North Carolina, the oldest daughter of Hezekiah Thomas (Jack) Davenport and Hazel Liverman Davenport. She enjoyed an active childhood in a small town on the Scuppernong River fishing, boating, playing sports and beach visits to the Outer Banks. Flo was an avid reader from childhood on and graduated as valedictorian from Columbia High School in 1954.

Flo attended Women’s College (now UNCG) for her first two years of college. Then transferred to UNC-Chapel Hill where she received her BS in medical technology in 1958. She worked at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami after graduation. Flo soon married her high school sweetheart, Irving Meekins Everton, and they moved to Savannah, Georgia. They later moved to Atlanta for Irv to attend Georgia Tech and Flo worked for Dr. Sellers as his medical technician. The couple moved to York, PA, Houston and Dallas, TX before settling in Greensboro, NC in 1965, where they raised their family.

Flo enjoyed singing in the choir at First Presbyterian Church for many years. She volunteered at school and church events then worked as the assistant librarian at Claxton Elementary for several years before returning as a full-time lab technician for the Guilford County Health Department until her retirement. Flo enjoyed a good game of bridge, scrabble and she could complete any crossword puzzle you gave her. She loved her family fiercely and was always available to listen, help or just love.

Flo was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Irving Everton; brother, Hugh Thomas Davenport and sister, Dru Thompson. She is survived by her children Holly Dickinson (Kent) Carolina Beach, NC, Hunter Everton (Laura) Chapel Hill, NC, Erin Woyahn (Danny) Greensboro, NC; 7 grandchildren, Jack (Amanda), Michael and Samantha Dickinson; Keely, Darby and Finley Woyahn; Kiah Everton; great granddaughter, Hannah Dickinson; and sisters Dana Woodard (Bob) and Kim Davenport.
