Frances Wieland Boerema, 90, of Greensboro, passed away on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Countryside Manor in Stokesdale. She was the loving wife of the late John Calvin Boerema. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Boerema Brown.
Born on May 7, 1931 in Grand Rapids, MI, she was the daughter of the late George Franklin Wieland and the late Catherine Zandstra Wieland. Frances attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI. She moved to Greensboro in 1958 with her family. After the death of her husband, she transferred to UNCG where she earned her Bachelor’s degree. She went on to earn her Master’s degree in Social Work from UNCCH.
She spent her career in service as a Medical Social Worker working with Family Violence Prevention Services, Guilford County Mental Health Emergency Services, Hospice of Winston-Salem, and Victim Advocate at the High Point Police Department, and the Greensboro Kidney Center. She was involved in Greensboro’s Young Life Ministry as a Committee Member and Group Leader for many years. She was a volunteer at Greensboro Urban Ministry, the Piedmont Triad Council of International Visitors, and on the YMCA Board.
Frances was a Charter member of Friendly Hills Church, PCA, in Jamestown. She served on the Missions Committee there for many years.
“Frankie” is survived by her children, Sandra Boerema Paige and husband Lee, John Calvin Boerema, Jr. and wife Pamela, and Nancy Boerema Cauble and husband John; six grandchildren – Dustin Paige, Ryan Brown (Marianne), Jenny Cauble Tinder (Justin), Ben Cauble, Nicole Paige Clasby (Logan), Elizabeth Cauble; nine great grandchildren; her sister, Malois DeGraaf and husband Don.
A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Monday, February 28, 2022 at New Garden Friends Cemetery. Please help us to honor our vibrant mother’s life by wearing bright colors!
