
Rev. Fred P. Albright, Jr. passed away Saturday, February 3, 2018 in Dunn, NC. Fred Jr. was the fifth and youngest child of Rosa Ballinger and Fred Purvis Albright, Sr. He was the last Albright child born in the Albright House (now on Friendly Ave, Greensboro, NC) on the Albright farm. This branch of the Albright family were members of Church of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, Greensboro, NC.
He attended Grimsley High School, served in the Army Air Corps during WWII, graduated from Guilford College, and graduated in 1958 from the Union Theological Seminary, Presbyterian Church in the United States, Richmond, VA.
He married Barbara Wilson (d. 1978) in Greensboro, NC in 1948 and is survived by son Frederick (Lisa) and grandsons Jason (Michaeline) and Lucas. He was preceded in death by second wife Esther Balkcum. He and his fiancé, Phyllis spent his latter years helping, visiting, and caring for each other. He is also survived by nephew Douglas Albright (Mary) and family, and nephew Robert Albright, both of Greensboro.
During seminary he served summer supply pastorates in Meherrin, Floyd, and Brentsville, VA. Rev. Albright was called to the home mission field of the Presbyterian Church and began his calling with Roan Mountain, Grays Chapel, Cove Creek, Tiger Creek, TN, and other churches; hence to Castle Hayne and Hampstead, NC churches, then Willow Springs, NC, followed by Buckingham, and New Store churches in VA, thence to Abingdon, Damascus, and Rock Spring churches in VA, then the Jackson Springs, NC church, followed by the Newton Grove, NC church. During semi -retirement he served as pastor in Jason, NC. “His faith was simple and straight forward, whatever hand he was dealt, whatever blows fell upon him, whatever stormy seas swirled around him he chose to believe in God’s promises and trust in His Grace (Douglas Albright).”
A graveside service will be at 1PM, Saturday, February 10, 2018 at New Garden Friends Meeting, 801 New Garden Rd, Greensboro, NC 27410, officiated by Reverend Douglas McLeroy. The family will receive friends Friday, February 9 from 5 to 7 PM at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm chapel.
