Fred was born on November 28, 1931, in Durham County, NC to the late Robert Charles Brown Sr. and Annie Cole Brown. He proudly served our country in the United States Army. In his free time, Fred enjoyed golfing, and in his later years, he was a member of the Super Senior Golf Group. In 1968, he even hit a hole in one! Fred was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite. He took pride in manicuring his yard, spending countless hours mowing and landscaping. As a man of faith, Fred was a member of First Baptist Church of Greensboro for many years.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Shirley Ann Boyles Brown; brothers, Robert Charles Brown Jr., Calvin C. Brown, and Lewis E. Brown; and sister, Mary Ann Brown Simmons.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, daughter, LuAnn Brown Kirk and husband Bert of Virginia Beach, VA; son, Robert L. Brown and wife Bonnie of Denver, NC; and six grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Boulevard, Greensboro, NC, with Dr. Bert Kirk officiating. Interment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
