Born on December 26, 1948 in Mt. Airy, he was the son of the late Carlie Edgar Jones and Louise Rich. George served our country in the United States Army and was a member of Lankford Memorial Baptist Church. Prior to his illness, he enjoyed going to the American Legion Cone Post 386, where he would volunteer at the hot dogs sales every Saturday and the Senior Athletic Center every day. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and playing pool, where he won the senior tournament.
In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Apple.
George is survived by his daughter, Brandi Jones Wilkerson and husband Matthew of Charlotte; grandson, Silas Grey Wilkerson and granddaughter, Spencer Grace Wilkerson, who is due to be born in August.
A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at Lakeview Memorial Park. Military honors will be presented by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Guilford County Animal Shelter, 4525 W. Wendover Avenue, Greensboro, North Carolina 27409.
