

George M. Roberts Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on November 16, 1931, in Asheville, George lived a life defined by service, dedication, and deep love for his family and community.
George proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force for 27 years. Following his military career, he continued serving others through his work as an ROTC instructor, and later as a mail carrier with the United States Postal Service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George M. Roberts Sr (Agnes). and Elizabeth E. Chappell (Frank).
George is survived by his devoted wife, Roberta J. Roberts, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership. He also leaves behind his sister Kathryn M Durity (Harry), his loving children: daughter Janis L. Hills (Bill), and sons David M. Roberts and Scott A. Roberts (April). He was a proud and loving grandfather to Julia L. Meadows (Robert), Kaitlyn M. Eberhard (Brad), Matthew M. Roberts, Jackson H. Roberts, and Sydney E. Roberts, and a cherished great-grandfather to Hannah J. Eberhard, Libby J. Eberhard, and Callie J. Eberhard.
Outside of his career and service, George was an avid outdoorsman who loved spending time in nature. He spent countless hours volunteering and supporting the North Carolina Arboretum. Additionally, He was a devoted blood donor and volunteer for the American Red Cross. He also proudly participated in the North Carolina Senior Games as an ambassador, encouraging others to stay active and involved in their communities.
More than anything, George treasured his family. He especially loved cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events and celebrating their accomplishments. Whether on the sidelines, in the stands, or sharing stories afterward, he was always one of their biggest supporters.
George will be remembered for his gentle spirit, unwavering integrity, strong work ethic, and enduring devotion to those he loved. His legacy of service, kindness, and family devotion will live on in the many lives he touched.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
