George Alfred Smith

George Alfred Smith, 97, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 5th 2025 at his home in Rome, Georgia. He was born on April 9th 1928 in Julian, North Carolina to his mother Lillian Smith and to a father he never knew.

George Smith was united before God to Doris East Smith and after her passing in 2000, found love and companionship again and was united before God to Ann Montgomery Smith.

George walked in faith as a humble servant of the Lord, was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a caring grandfather, who touched the hearts of all who knew him. He enjoyed taking trips with family and friends, playing golf, participating in Church services and Sunday School, playing board and card games, and being the rock of the family.

George was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Doris East Smith; his loving mother, Lillian Smith; two of his grandchildren, Dustin Ellis and Jonathan Hartley; his stepson Kevin Montgomery.

George is survived by his beloved second wife, Ann Montgomery Smith; his beautiful daughters, Patti Ellis and Rebecca Wiggle; his stepsons Keith Montgomery and Kerry Montgomery; his grandchildren, Raina Ellis, and Michelle Wiggle Chance; his great grandchildren Kane Snider and Kaylee Nicole Ellis Biggs.

He was a light in the world and will be missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be on Monday May 12th, 2025 at 12pm and Service at 1pm, held at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel on 6000 W Gate City Blvd. Greensboro, NC 27407. Graveside service to follow at Guilford Memorial Park.
