Mr. Gerald Welton Holcombe, 85, a resident of Greensboro died Saturday September 14, 2013 at High Point Regional Hospital. Mr. Holcombe was born October 6, 1927 in Danville, VA, the son of Ernest Alfred and Nina Butler Holcombe. A veteran of WWII, he served in the U.S. Army. Before retiring he owned and operated Superior Printing in Greensboro. Mr. Holcombe was a charter member of Gate City Baptist Church, taught Sunday School for five years and in 1975 he became the first ordained deacon at Gate City Baptist Church.
Mr. Holcombe was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Virginia Carol Holcombe and his brothers, Douglas and Harold Holcombe.
Mr.Holcombe was married on January 2, 1945 to the former Bettie Frances Brogdon who preceded him in death in 1989. In 2003 he married the former Frances Juanita Miller who survives of the home.
Surviving are his wife Frances Juanita Holcombe; one daughter; Virginia Dianne Holcombe of Greensboro; one son; Jerry Thomas Holcombe of Morehead City; one step-daughter; Diane McKinzie of Fort Worth, TX; one step-son, Dana Ray Miller and wife Martha of Greensboro; former daughter-in-law, Billie H. Rouse; three grandchildren, Viridianne B. Rickards of Greensboro, Cynthia Chase Bryan of Raleigh, Kenneth Banks Holcombe of London, U.K.; two step-grandchildren, Melissa Snow of Wilmington, Tucker McKinzie of Fort Worth, TX; two great grandchildren, Sutton Caroline Bryan and Elliott Faye Bryan; two step-great grandchildren, Aidan Snow and Jocelyn Snow.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Gate City Baptist Church conducted by Reverend Michael Owens. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Gate City Baptist Church on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until service time
