

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., in Greensboro on Wednesday, June 22, 2022. Burial will follow in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following the service.
David was born in Wilkes County, NC on July 7, 1938 to the late Charlie Everette Cothren and Virginia Dare Eller Cothren and attended Groometown Baptist Church. He graduated from East Wilkes High School, was a member of the Greensboro Moose Lodge and retired from Vicks-Proctor and Gamble after 40 years of employment. David, known by everyone as “Mr. Fix It” enjoyed working on things in his basement and woodworking. He had a huge appreciation for classic cars, watching NASCAR, fishing shows, the Grand Ole Opry, Blue Grass and Gospel music. David was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him. He loved spending time with his family, (especially his grandchildren), celebrating birthdays, and hanging out with all of his friends from the Moose Lodge. David was always willing to offer a helping hand to anyone in need, and was known for being kind to others, whether you were a waitress, caregivers, children, or just any complete stranger he met off the street. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Janice Cothren; a brother, Max Cothren; a sister, Nancy Cothren; and two brothers-in-law, Waldo Saintsing and Ken McAdams.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Shirley Wilkins Cothren of Greensboro, NC; sons, Glenn David Cothren, Jr., (Nancy) of Jamestown, NC and Gary Dale Cothren (Julie) of Greensboro, NC; step-children, Tony Wilkins of Greensboro, NC and Marcia Kevitt of Greensboro, NCsisters, Joan Saintsing of Thomasville, NC and Judy McAdams of Pleasant Garden, NC; sisters-in-law, Mary Cothren of Wilkesboro, NC and Nancy “Doodle” Weston of Staley, NC; brother-in-law, Roy Pope of Sunset Beach, NC; grandchildren, Kevin Cothren, Brandon Cothren, Jordan Cothren, Joshua Cothren, Toni Cothren and Abbie Cothren; and other extended family and friends.
