Gordon was born January 27, 1929 in Greensboro to the late Oscar Roy Younts, Sr. and Ada Lee Snider Younts. After the death of his mother, he spent his childhood in orphanages in High Point and Winston Salem. He graduated from Reynolds High School.
Gordon served his country in the Air Force stationed in Germany post WWII and during the Korean War. He enjoyed a long career in sales where he touched many lives with his strong faith and compassion for others. Gordon’s greatest love was the Word of God and lived his life accordingly. Second only to Christ was his love and dedication to his family. He was an amazing husband and father who set a great example for all who knew him. Gordon was an avid lifelong fan the UNC Tarheels.
The family members he leaves behind are his wife, Jean Younts, children, Lee Younts and wife Casey of Climax, Sarah Younts Teague and husband Chris of Cornelius, Rebekah Younts Schneiderman and husband Lee of Greensboro; Stepchildren, Kim and Duane Floyd of Amhurst, NH, Earl and Alison Dempster of Kennesaw, Ga;. Grandchildren, Joshua, Christopher, Hannah, Tate and Josie; Great Grandchildren, Lily and Brantley and very special nieces and nephews.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Nancy Joyce Younts, brothers, Oscar Roy Younts, Jr., Billy Ray Younts, Ralph Anslem Younts, Claude Thomas Younts; and sister, Betty Lou Garrett Kersey.
His family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Forsythe Memorial Hospital and Hospice of Winston-Salem for the loving care provided during his recent illness.
Graveside services celebrating his life will be held on Wednesday, 3:00 p.m. at Green Hill Cemetery, 901 Wharton St., Greensboro, NC 27401. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00-2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hanes Lineberry N. Elm Chapel, 515 North Elm Street, Greensboro.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to The Children's Home, 1001 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104 or Hospice of Winston-Salem, 101 Hospice Ln, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
