The time has come for us to part, but knows you will forever be in our hearts. Gwendolyn Louise Williams took her last breath on December 02, 2010.
She was a beloved educator, Auntie, friend, sister, but most of all Mother to her sons Dwayne and Derek Williams to whom she is survived. Gwendolyn is also survived by her brother Ernest Williams. She also has a brother Hermon Williams whom she has gone to be with in peace. Her Nieces include Sandra, Debbie Williams, and Ernestine Williams all of New York, Nephew Ernest Williams Jr. , Sister in Law Barbara Williams and grandchildren Selenna Jackson and Tyler Crabtree.
Gwendolyn was a teacher assistant in the New Hanover County School System for 28 years until she retired. She enjoyed many activities but mostly spending time with friends and family to whom she traveled and hosted often to visit. She was most known for her kind spirit, tough hand with the children but gentle nurture when it was warranted. She was a woman of knowledge, wisdom and many stories to which she shared and reminisced on frequently. In the later part of her life she enjoyed sitting with her son and daughter in law on the porch just to watch the children play or bask in the quietness that was often the case in the evening of summer. She was a woman with style who displayed this even as recent as this summer when she asked to go shopping with her daughter in law and came back with a “Summer Collection”.
She was a devoted Jehovah Witness but never shunned any other belief making her a true woman of display of the true language of Love. She enjoyed her weekly service attendance on Sundays with her son Dwayne and her weekly phone calls that evening from her son Derek. All in all Gwen lived a full and loving life and she was very loved by all whom knew her. She will constantly live on with her family values and her vibrant spirit. It is comforting to know she will not suffer any longer but will be free in spirit and body to run and check in on those she loves whenever she feels the need or feels the need is there.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm Sunday, December 5, 2010 at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Chapel N. Elm Street. A visitation will be held 12:00pm one hour prior to the memorial service at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home N. Elm Street.
