Mrs. Hallie Marie Ward Rich, 83, a resident of Greensboro died Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Moses H. Cone Hospital. Mrs. Rich was born August 25, 1928 in Greensboro the daughter of Hallie Reid and Beulah Marie Johnson Ward. Marie was employed for many years with several textile firms before retiring and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was married April 1, 1950 to Joseph Vernon Rich who preceded her in death on April 15, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Garnet Holt.
Surviving are two daughters, Rosemary R. Gowan and husband John of Spartanburg, SC, Judy R. James and husband Darrell of Greensboro; one son, Joseph “Joey” Rich of Greensboro; one sister, Grace Styles of Archdale; four brothers, Ralph Ward of Summerfield, Wayne Ward of Greensboro, Robert Ward of High Point, Paul Ward of Shallotte; three grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery on Groometown Rd. conducted by Reverend Danny Janes. Mrs. Rich will remain at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel where the family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
