He is survived by his “angel on earth” Paula, daughters Wendy, Stacey (David) and Donna (Ron) and grandchildren Ashley and Thomas.
Haney was born in Rome, Georgia and grew up in Centre, Alabama. He earned a B.S. in Pre-Medicine and an M.S. in Entomology at Auburn University and a PhD in Entomology from the University of California at Riverside.
Haney spent his career in Research and Development with CIBA/Ciba-Geigy/Novartis with the majority as vice president of the agricultural division in Greensboro, NC.
In his spare time Haney enjoyed golf, fishing, reading, travelling, gardening, propagating his special “Pollysan” grape tomato and creating puzzles in JIGIDI.
Haney believed in giving back – he held various roles for Ciba/Novartis with United Way in Greensboro, participated in Mobile Meals, volunteered at the North Carolina Zoo, fund raised for the Greensboro Montessori School, was on the Board of Directors at the Natural Science Center in Greensboro and was a member of the Lion’s Club in Florida.
In his youth, he was a member of FFA, summer lifeguard at the Centre swimming pool, a Boy Scout and a member of MYF (Methodist Youth Fellowship).
A Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date.
