
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 18, at Beth David Synagogue with Rabbi Eliezer Havivi officiating. Interment will follow at Hebrew Cemetery.
She was born March 18th, 1920 in Paterson, New Jersey and was the daughter of the late Jacob and Sarah Simon. She was preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Kaplan, and her husband, Julian Kabat.
Harriet met Julian while serving in the Women’s Army Corp. In 1961, they moved their family from Glen Cove, New York to Greensboro, North Carolina and quickly established themselves as active members of the community.
Harriet will be remembered as a woman of substance and compassion who made a lifetime commitment to serve her family, her country and her community. Harriet maintained strong ties with Beth David Synagogue throughout her life, served as the President of the Sisterhood and was a life member of Hadassah. Harriet was an avid volunteer at the Wesley Long Hospital emergency room for 37 years.
Her passions included travelling, the Eastern Music Festival, playing mahjong with her friends and being truly grateful for the world around her.
She was a powerful selfless crusader for friends, family and anyone in need. She will be remembered for her unassuming disposition, an affectionate concern for others and the gift of laughter.
Harriet is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Andrea Kabat; her son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Ronnie Kabat; her daughter and son-in-law Roberta and Aung Taik; and her daughter and son-in-law Ruth and Mark Thomas.
Harriet was blessed with six grandchildren: Scott Kabat, Elaine Kabat Moody, Jacqueline Kabat, Leah Thomas, Jeffrey Thomas and Marissa Bohrer. She was further blessed with four great-grandchildren: Joanna and Lila Moody and Lilly and Jack Kabat.
Her final wish was that donations be made to: Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue Greensboro, NC 27405.
