Harriet Schafer Livingston, 85, passed away peacefully at home in Chapel Hill, NC on Monday, August 16, 2021. Harriet was a loving wife for 63 years, wonderful mother, caring and generous grandmother, loyal sister and a true genuine friend.
She was born in Mt. Airy, NC on July 14, 1936. She attended Pine Manor College in Wellesley, MA and graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1958. She met her future husband and love of her life, Frank at UNC. After she graduated they lived in Chicago and Highland Park, Ill for 42 years before moving back to Chapel Hill, NC in 2000.
She is survived by her husband Frank H. Livingston; daughters, Jennifer Edinger and husband Steven Edinger, Susan Breen and her fiancé Victor Navarroli; grandchildren, Isabelle and Beckman Breen, Mackenzie and Zach Edinger and brother Gerald Schafer and his wife Linda and sisters-in-law, Sally Loeb and Patricia Livingston.
Harriet loved her garden, playing bridge and international travel. She was particularly fond of Poland, as she and Frank lived there for 18 months.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 20, 10:00 am at Temple Emanuel, 1129 Jefferson Road in Greensboro (ATTENDEES MUST BE MASKED AND VACCINATED). Burial will follow at the Greensboro Hebrew Cemetery. The service will be live streamed on the Facebook page of Temple Emanuel.
