

Born July 1929, she was predeceased by her parents Caba and Katie Rivkin, and her husband Robert Zalkin. She was a product of Columbia schools McMaster, Hand and Dreher; and graduated from University of South Carolina with a double major in English and Psychology.
Growing up in Columbia, she was active at Town Theatre, the Daughters of Israel as well as other cultural and charity groups.
In 1957, she and her family moved to Greensboro NC where she raised her 3 children, working first for her husband's company, then in the Advertising office of the Food Rite grocery chain. Upon reaching retirement she volunteered with Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro until her husband became ill, and she "retired" once again.
Harriett is survived by her daughter Robin Z. Brown of Knoxville, TN, sons Andrew Zalkin of Columbia, SC and Joseph Zalkin of Raleigh, NC.
Graveside service to be held on Wednesday May 23, at 1 PM, Greensboro Hebrew Cemetery with Rabbi Joshua Ben-Gideon officiating.
