

Helen Dukes Hawley, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2025 at her residence with her family by her side. She was born on August 11, 1929 to the late Lucile H. Bishop and T. DuPree Bishop of Bennettsville, SC.
Helen graduated Bennettsville High School in 1946. Following high school, she went to Winthrop University where she graduated in 1950. In 1949 she married Wyndham S. Dukes and they lived in Chapel Hill until 1951 when he graduated from UNC School of Pharmacy and they moved to Greensboro. Helen and Wyndham joined Christ UMC in 1956. During their time at Christ UMC they both remained active in the church. Her and Wyndham had two children.
In 2003, Helen married Darwin Hawley.
Helen enjoyed spending time in their mountain cabin in Ashe County. She also loved to play bridge with her friends. Helen loved to ball room dance and competed in competitions.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded by her first husband, Wyndham Dukes, who died in 1984 and her second husband, Darwin Hawley who died in 2011.
Helen is survived by her two children, Robert “Bobby” DuPree Dukes of Liberty and Deborah D. Clark (Nick) of Kernersville; granddaughters, Kasidy Clark and Michelle Alverson (Michael); grandson, Robert Wyndham Dukes (Stephanie); two great granddaughters, Nora Dukes and Hayden Alverson; step-grandchildren, Corben Zelt, Lilyan Arndell, Joseph Clark and Cheri Hanlon (Chuck); and numerous step-great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Monday, April 7, 2025 at Westminster Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262.
