Henry Lee Bergman, age 90 passed away on Saturday January 18th. He was born on September 9th, 1923 in Greensboro to the late Wade Kenneth and Annie Mae Apple Bergman. Henry was married to his wife Opal Bergman for 68 years; their marriage date being August 10, 1945.
Henry is survived by his beloved wife Opal; one daughter, Barbara Bergman Smith and husband Tommy of High Point, one son, Michael Leon Bergman of Oak Ridge; one sister, Lula Mae Atkins of High Point; six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Henry was preceded in death by his son David Lee Bergman; his grandson Johnny Ray Bergman; two sisters, Edith Neese, Mildred Clark and four brothers, Nelson, George, Paul and Kenneth Bergman.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Henry proudly served his country in WWII in the 737th Tank Battalion Patton’s Spearheaders, was at the Battle of the Bulge and earned multiple awards and a Purple Heart. Henry worked at Mock-Judson Hosiery Mill and in 1985 retired from Lorillard as a Mechanic. Henry is a lifetime member of Muir’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
Graveside Services for Henry will be conducted by Rev. Vance Lowe at 2:00 p.m. on Monday January 20th at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel from 1:00-2:00 p.m.
