

Henry “Hank” Elwood Strader Jr., 78, a resident of Randleman passed away on Sunday September 8, 2024 at Moses H. Cone Hospital. He was born in Reidsville, the son of Henry Elwood Strader Sr. and Evelyn Soyars Strader.
Hank grew up on the family farm in Rockingham County. He was a member of the graduating Class of 1964 at Ruffin High School. He served six years in the U.S. Navy and was a Vietnam Veteran. He received his Honorable Discharge on the 29th of October 1970.
After serving in the Navy, Hank Graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a Degree of Bachelor of Arts and then continued on at UNC-Greensboro to receive his Master of Education.
Hank worked for the Randolph County School System with the Seagrove Elementary School. He ended his career as Assistant Principal with the Guilford County School System.
After his retirement, he would return back as needed to help volunteer with the EOG testing as a proctor or other needs they may have. Hank also enjoyed his retirement working part time with Knight Carr & Company becoming exposed to a totally different life away from the school bells, lunch times and bus schedules, but staying busy helping maintain other types of deadlines.
He also stayed busy on the week-ends working for Show Pros that provided security and crowd control. One of the many benefits he was able to receive from this was the ability to meet nationally known people including the NFL, other sports teams, and major performers at other venues.
During his adult life after marrying, he and Fairy were blessed with two beautiful girls, Stephanie and Sarah. He made family a major part of his life, always helping and being involved with their education, sports and upbringing.
His hobbies included raising a garden, avid Tar Heel fan, Racket Ball, Running the Fun Fourth Race, several 5-K’s and he volunteered his time working with the Homeless Shelter and delivering food to the needy on holidays.
Hank was preceded in death by his wife, Fairy Davis Strader; his parents and his daughter, Stephanie Ann Strader.
He is survived by his daughter, Sarah Strader Price “Robert”; grandson, Isaiah David Strader; sister-in-Law, Judith Davis Hancock “Mike” and two loving siblings, Sister, Sandra K. Strader and brother, Garry D. Strader “Lisa” and a nephew, Blake Strader.
Hank always maintained a very loving and close relationship with his siblings and they will love and miss him forever. After his full retirement he enjoyed visits with and spending time reading to his grandson and let’s not forget those weekly visits to Subway in Randleman. He grew up in Reidsville and he would always try to go back and visit most weekends to see his family. He always called it God’s Country – Home. Now he has truly gone home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 13, 2024 at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Hank’s memory to any Homeless Shelter of the donor’s choice.
