Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at Greensboro Christian Church, located at 3232 Yanceyville St. in Greensboro, with Pastor Nick Vipperman officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park with military honors.
Born in Westminister, SC, to the late John and Beatrice Reed, Pop was of the Christian faith. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, and earned the World War II Victory Medal. Pop stayed busy even after retiring from Southern Rubber.
He enjoyed socializing with friends and family and was an avid sports fan. He was an avid reader, liked crossword puzzles and word seeking. Pop was a member of the American Legion, loved to bird watch, golfing, and especially bowling. If he wasn�t playing some sort of sport, he was watching it on television. He was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Pop was preceded in death by his wife of 23 years, Alice Saunders Reed; sister, Virginia Livingston; and brother, Roy Reed. Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Wanda Reed and her fiance Danny of Greensboro, Debbie Williams and her husband Jeff of McLeansville, and Tom Reed and his wife Elizabeth of Greensboro; and three grandchildren, Nick Williams, Charles Riddle, and Wesley Reed.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm Tuesday evening, January 10, 2012, at Hanes-Lineberry North Elm Chapel, and other times at his son�s residence at 1720 Farrell St., in Greensboro.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Moses Cone�s Critical Intensive Care Unit and a special thank you to nurse Joy, for her personal care and compassion.
