Horace Powell, deeply loved and cherished by all who knew him, passed away on July 6, 2024, rejoining his beloved wife Louise, who passed in October 2023. He is survived by his son, Lenwood Powell, and his sister, Helen Ripley.
Horace proudly served in the Army and spent most of his career with Norfolk Southern Railroad. Known for his kindness, huge heart, fierce loyalty to his family, and wonderful sense of humor, Horace's presence brought light and warmth to everyone around him. He was a beacon of light, showing us all what a great man looked like, and the world is darker with his loss.
A visitation to honor Horace's life will be held from 4 to 6 PM, Monday, July 8th at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home, 515 N Elm St, Greensboro, NC 27401. The burial service will take place on Wednesday, July 10th at 11:00 AM in Amherst Cemetery, 105 Grandview Dr, Amherst, VA 24521.
