Howard Weast, age 89, died Feb. 15, 2019 at Heritage Greens Memory Care. He spent his childhood years in Kannapolis. Howard served his country in the US Marines for five years and the graduated from Wofford College. He worked for Pilot Life Insurance Company in the Groups Department and retired from Lincoln National Insurance Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.D. and Florence Weast; his brothers James and Carl and his sister, Lorene Hooper.
Howard was a member of Hinshaw United Methodist Church where he served on many committees and chaired several. He worked with mobile meals, Crop Walk, cooked breakfast for the men’s breakfast club for thirty years and taught the Asbury Sunday School class. Howard was also elected Lay Person of the Year in 1998.
Howard is survived by his wife Janie; sons, David (Lori) and Paul (Suzie); granddaughters, Kara Landers (Andy), Stephanie Capozzi (Mike) and Lindsay Grether (Matt). Howard also has four great grandsons; Connor and Ethan Landers, Callen Capozzi and Nathan Grether.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 18 at 11:00 am at Hinshaw United Methodist Church, 4501 W. Gate City Blvd, Greensboro with Pastor Tom Jolly officiating. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park with full military rites. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
