Howard Ray Fulcher passed away on February 18, 2023. He was born in Spray, NC (now Eden) to Marshall and Irene (McPherson) Fulcher on April 16, 1934. He attended Greensboro Senior High School (Grimsley) but dropped out to enlist in the Army in order to serve in Korea. He was honorably discharged in February 1953. After being discharged, he attended Guilford College and Clevenger Business College to earn an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration. After that, he joined the Seabees (Naval Reserves) and served for over 30 years. Howard retired from the Seabees as E-9 Master Chief Petty Officer.
He held a variety of jobs over the years and retired from Diesel Equipment Company. After retirement, he volunteered at the VA hospital in Salisbury and at his church.
For many years, he was a league bowler. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and attending Nascar races. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge (Greensboro and Stokesdale) and helped to plan and participated in Seabee reunions. He was an active member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Greensboro. He and his wife, June enjoyed camping, cruises, and spending winter months in Florida until her health failed. He and June also enjoyed square dancing. He was a dog lover and was very rarely without one as a cherished pet.
He is predeceased by his wife, June; his daughter, Pam Carty; his son-in-law, Marty Carty; his parents; and niece, Elizabeth Ingram.
He is survived by daughters, Kay Scott (Harold) and Debbie Steward; son, Ray Steward; brother, Mike Fulcher (Velma); grandchildren, Adam Carty, Chris Scott (Sharon), Alex Carty and Mindy McCarthy (Patrick); two great-granddaughters, Alanna and Claire; and niece, Michelle Roberson (Mark).
The service will be held at Centenary United Methodist Church, 2300 W. Friendly Ave., Greensboro, NC on Saturday, February 25 at 11:00. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park, Hwy 29 N., Greensboro, NC. Visitation will be February 25 from 10:00 – 11:00.
