

Howard Wilson Holt, 80 years old, passed away on March 12, 2026. He was born on September 8, 1945, in Salem, Virginia to Henry Howard and Nellie Melvin Wilson Holt. Their family moved to Stokesdale, NC when Howard was 5 years old. Later they moved again to a house on Cliffside Terrace. He attended Lindley Elementary and Junior High and Greensboro Senior High School. After graduation, he started working at the Greensboro Police Department as a switchboard operator. When the department decided to launch a crime scene division, Howard signed up. He retired from that division after 34 years of service and held several jobs after that.
He married Sharon Lee Schmidt in 1967, after she graduated from Rowan Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. They were married on February 11, 1967, and had been married for 59 years at his passing.
Howard leaves behind his wife “Cookie” Holt; brother-in-law, Clifford Paul Schmidt; nephews Jacob Ellis Schmidt; niece, Lauren Elizabeth Angel, several great nieces and nephews and three great great nieces and nephews, all from Summerfield, NC.
In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his brother, David Rodney Holt and four aunts and uncles.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m Sunday, March 29, at Pleasant Union Church, followed by a visitation in the fellowship hall, 5929 Coble Church Road, Liberty, NC.
