Inju Yi Sullivan, age 79, of Greensboro, NC, passed away on Feb 11th after a long battle with both cancer and dementia. Thankfully, she had family members by her side when she peacefully passed. Born on October 19th 1946 in Jeonju South Korea, Inju was known for being an incredibly hard worker, passionate, generous, and she did whatever it took, to take care of her 2 sons.
When Inju came to the United States, with husband John Deur Sullivan, she initially worked at Timex, a wrist watch manufacturing company, helping to assemble and repair watches. From there, she found her niche in selling Mary K cosmetics. She was so incredibly adept at it, that she became the #1 selling agent in the entirety of the East Coast of the United States, acquiring the title of “Queen of Sales” by Mary K and was even given a brand new car, an incredible achievement for a foreigner who barely spoke English at the time.
Unfortunately, she had to give up this dream opportunity after having endured a divorce, after which, she found work at the Southbury Training School, a state run facility for the mentally disabled, where she acted as a nurse for the clients therein. She retired with pension after dedicating 28 years to the school and finally achieved her dream of being able to wake up with a view of the ocean when she purchased a beach front condo in Connecticut.
She then dedicated her life to Judaism, specifically Jewish Orthodoxy. She studied the religion, learned Hebrew, travelled to Israel, and was officially converted with the approval of multiple Rabbi.
She lived out the rest of her life, loving her children, grandchildren, extended family, and God.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 am, Friday, February 26th at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel, 515 North Elm Street, followed by a graveside service at 12 pm at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3901 Forest Lawn Drive.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to any cancer and/or dementia related charities.
