Greensboro, NC: Irene Warren Mitchell Moore died on Sunday, November 18, 2012 in Greensboro, NC. She was born on June 12, 1920 in Wilson, NC to parents Irene Warren Mitchell and Dr. George William Mitchell. She attended St. Mary’s Junior College and graduated from Sweet Briar College.
In 1943, she married attorney Beverly Cooper Moore, who was born and raised in Greensboro. She has been an active member of the Greensboro Junior League, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Kirkwood Garden Club, the Dogwood Garden Club, and the Greensboro Symphony Guild. She enjoyed the opera and local art exhibitions. She also supported The Greensboro Historical Museum.
She was a philanthropist who supported higher education, the arts, and public parks. She was a great benefactor of Sweet Briar College and The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She also was an active member of Holy Trinity Church. She loved people and possessed a great zest for life.
Mrs. Moore enjoyed volunteer work, gardening, tennis and golf in earlier years. Mr. and Mrs. Moore traveled extensively abroad, including trips as American Bar Association representatives. Mrs. Moore supported her husband during his terms in the ABA House of Delegates and his term as NC Bar Association President.
She is predeceased by her husband, Beverly Cooper Moore, and her son, Beverly Cooper Moore, Jr.
Survived by: daughter, Warren Moore Miller, son-in-law William Miller, daughter-in-law, Deanna I. Moore, granddaughters Alice Moore and Caroline Moore Rodier, grandson-in-law Robert Rodier, Jr., and great-granddaughters Sadie Rodier and Frances Rodier.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Friday, November 23 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Greensboro. A reception will follow at the church.
