Irving was born February 7,1933 in Gum Neck, NC, the son of George Washington Everton and Pollyann Meekins Everton. He spent his childhood exploring the outdoors, hunting and fishing, and full of curiosity. Irv graduated from Columbia High School where he first met his wife of 64 years Florine Davenport.
Irv served in the US AirForce as a Major and a flight instructor. He continued to serve in the US National Guard for over 20 years and remained a proud veteran.
Irv graduated from Georgia Tech as a mechanical engineer. He spent his career in the air-conditioning and water treatment industry which brought his family to Greensboro in 1965. Irving was happiest working in the yard or tinkering in his shop and could fix almost anything. He was an active member of the Edward R Murrow Golden K- Kiwanis Club for many years and worked with Toys for Tots and Habitat for Humanity. The family was active at First Presbyterian Church.
Friends and family know that Irv would light up the moment he saw you. In fact, he probably had a good story to tell. His children and grandchildren will fondly remember his gift of teaching all of them valuable life lessons while being surrounded by his love and continued encouragement.
He is survived by his loving wife, Florine Davenport Everton; children Holly Dickinson (Kent), and Erin Woyahn (Danny) all of Greensboro, and Hunter Everton (Laura) of Chapel Hill; 7 grandchildren, Jack (Amanda Christianson), Michael, and Samantha Dickinson; Keely, Darby, and Finley Woyahn; and Kiah Everton.
