Isaac Andrew Kohl, 22, passed away peacefully on September 21, surrounded by his loving family and friends, after a long and valiant battle with cancer.
Isaac was born in Gainesville, Florida, to Richard Kohl and Lindsay Sartorio. From the very beginning, his name, which means “laughter,” perfectly suited him. He lived each day with joy, humor, and infectious energy. He was always singing, joking, and bringing smiles to everyone around him. Making friends wherever he went was simply part of who he was.
Isaac loved life and lived it to the fullest. He had a need for speed and a passion for motorcycles, classic cars, stick shifts, trucks, and anything that moved fast. He was happiest in an adventure, a good conversation, or simply spending time with friends and family. Isaac also loved America, art, music, drawing, and singing, as well as his dog “Boops,” his loyal “boys crew,” and most of all, his Riley. Unapologetically himself, he carried a limitless well of creativity, talent, and love. He could talk for hours about his passions, especially cars and motorcycles, and he dreamed of one day owning his own custom shop. He never missed a chance to check in, remind you that he loved you, or wrap you in a hug.
In August 2023, Isaac was diagnosed with cancer, a challenge he faced with incredible courage, dignity, and grace. Even in treatment he remained kind, respectful, and upbeat with every nurse and doctor he met. He knew the weight of their work and made it his mission to brighten their days, often striking up conversations and forming genuine friendships. His warmth, humor, and resilience touched countless lives and left a lasting mark on all who knew him.
Isaac graduated from St. Pius X Catholic School and Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School. He went on to train as an EMT and Firefighter, and most recently worked in auto mechanics. Smart, strong, and brave, Isaac will be remembered as a positive, joy-filled young man who loved deeply and gave freely.
Along with his parents, Isaac is survived by his brother, Joseph Kohl; sisters, Grace and Evangeline Kohl; grandparents, Cathy (Ed) Buxton and Victoria Sartorio; aunts and uncles, Michelle (Steve) Cardillo, Ashley (Kenny) Davis, and Michael (Jenny) Sartorio; and cousins, Jackie and Maggie Davis, Griffin, Wesley, and Nolan Cardillo, and Olivia Bowdish-Sartorio and Michael J. Sartorio.
Preceding him in death are his grandparents, Richard and Joann Kohl, and André Sartorio.
Isaac’s family would like to especially thank his devoted girlfriend, Riley Conway, who faithfully remained by his side, as well as his best friends Mason Hock, Andrew Brokes, and Dawson Lee.
Isaac’s spirit, laughter, and love will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His family asks for continued prayers for the repose of his soul.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Pius X, where a scholarship has been established in Isaac’s name that will recognize and encourage students with outstanding talent in the arts and music: https://onrealm.org/stpiusxnc/give/isaac (St. Pius X Catholic Church, 2210 North Elm St., Greensboro, NC 27408)
