Isabel McDonald Rollins, 100, of Greensboro, NC, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and cherished friend, entered her heavenly home on December 15, 2025, surrounded by love and with a life beautifully lived. Born on May 13, 1925, in Hartsville, SC, Isabel was the third of four children born to Mary B. and John McDonald. She was preceded in death by her husband, David W Rollins, Sr; her daughter, Isabel Rollins McNally; sister Frances McRae, two brothers, Neil and Harry McDonald and her parents.
From an early age, Isabel showed courage and independence -driving at age 13 years old out of necessity after her father’s passing. She attended 1st Presbyterian Church and Coker College in Hartsville and later transferred to Queens College in Charlotte, NC.
One summer hoping to escape the Southern heat, she continued her studies at Appalachian State where she met the love of her life, David Rollins. Their courtship was sparked by his smile-and a red convertible—during the days of WW II.
The two were married on February 4,1945, in Lake City, FL. Following their marriage, they returned to Appalachian State and then moved to Greensboro, NC.
Isabel worked for The Greensboro Daily News and later taught business college, gaining the admiration of students and colleagues alike. Together they raised four children- two girls and two boys- each believing they were her favorite. Her family continued to grow through the blessing of seven grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, all of whom lovingly called her Goggi.
A woman of grace, gentleness, and warmth, Isabel possessed a rare ability to make others feel valued, accepted, and loved. Many trusted her with their deepest worries, knowing they would find no judgement-only comfort.
Her greatest pride and joy were always her family. She was a woman of steadfast faith where she was a member of First Baptist Church, Greensboro for over 70 years. She was also a charter member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
Isabel is survived by her daughter, Nancy Rollins Bain of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; her sons David W Rollins, Jr. of Orlando, FL, and John C Rollins, Sr. (Cathie) of Jamestown, NC.
She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kendall Bain Dunlap (Andrew), Robert C Bain, Jr. (Sarah), Katie Phillips (Todd), Mary Katherine Singer, John C. Rollins, Jr. (Cecily), Anna Rollins Campa (Luis); her 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She leaves behind 2 devoted and loving friends, Betty Bass and Joy Ellison, who shared a treasured place in her life.
Memorial gifts may be made to First Baptist Church, Greensboro, NC, a congregation that deeply shaped her life and faith.
A Celebration of Isabel’s life will be held at 12 noon on Friday, December 19, 2025, First Baptist Church, 1000 West Friendly Ave., Greensboro, NC 27401, followed by a reception at the church.
Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel is honored to serve the Rollins family.
