Jack Wyndham Seawell, 85, passed away Monday at Moses Cone Hospital. Born June 16th, 1928 in Nashville, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Earl Wyndham Seawell. Jack attended Duncan Preparatory School where he captained the golf team. Following Duncan, Jack graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.
Jack served proudly in the U.S. Navy as an executive officer on USS LST 521. Following his service, he began a successful engineering career at Tidewater Supply Company which brought him to Greensboro. Jack was active throughout his life in many organizations, including service on the Eagle Scout Board of Review for the Boy Scouts of America. In addition to his civic and social endeavors, he still found time for his passions: trout fishing, golfing, hunting, and the good martini.
Jack loved much about life, but his greatest love was always his family. He is survived by his wife, Claire McGrath Seawell, daughters Mary Claire Seawell Thomas of Greensboro and Katherine Seawell (Mary Leigh Lewis) of Raleigh, and sons Shawn Seawell (Leigh Anne Gibson) and Daniel Seawell all of Greensboro. “Pops” is also survived by seven grandchildren; Ms. Cristin Thomas of Asheville, Mr. Michael Thomas, Ms. Claire Thomas and Mr. Ryan Seawell of Raleigh, Ms. Mary Katherine Seawell of Wilmington, Ms. Logan Seawell of Red Oak and Ms. Katherine Thomas of Greensboro. Pops will be missed terribly by all of his friends and family.
A service celebrating his life will be held at W. Market St. United Methodist Church on Friday at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends at his home.
