Jacqueline Ann Perkins

A woman of deep and abiding faith, Jacque expressed her love for the Lord through a lifetime of caring for and serving others. She worked for the Moses Cone Hospital System in Greensboro for more than 25 years as an emergency room nurse, intravenous therapy nurse, educator, workers compensation case manager, and forensic nurse.

She also served six and a half years as a medical examiner for the State of North Carolina, completing approximately 1,000 medicolegal death investigations and earning her D-ABMDI certification. She was the first nurse appointed by the North Carolina Chief Medical Examiner's Office to serve five counties and the first registered nurse recognized as an expert-witness medical examiner in Guilford County Criminal District Court. A conference speaker and educator on human trafficking, domestic violence, forensic nursing, and death investigation, she also pursued graduate studies in investigations at the University of New Haven. In her own words, Jacque was "a strong advocate and a voice for both the living and the dead."

Jacque was joyful, spirited, and wonderfully adventurous. She loved caffeine, writing, chocolate, and the unexpected, and as a gifted cook she delighted in bringing people together around the table. Her travels took her to India, Vietnam, Singapore, Jamaica, Italy, and beyond; she went skydiving, attended more than 20 concerts, and never stopped seeking new experiences.

Above all, Jacque deeply loved her family. She is survived by her sister, Janet; her brother, George; sister Teresa; her sons, Robert and Zane; her daughters-in-law, Ann and Trish; her nephews, Charlie and Joey; nieces, Amanda, Ashley; her grandchildren, Julia, Emma, Dallas, Cheyenne, Josh, Billie Jean, and Jessica; and her great-grandchildren, including Annabelle, Peyton, Cleo, Liam, Ivy and Mary Jane.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Lieutenant Colonel George Roy Perkins and wife Mary Ann Perkins, and her sister, Diane Edwards and husband Larry Edwards.

Her family takes comfort in knowing that she was on her way to worship and is now at peace in the presence of the Lord she loved so dearly. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, students, patients, colleagues, church family, and community.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, October 5, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, 2210 North Elm Street, Greensboro, NC 27408. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3901 Forest Lawn Drive.
