James Lee Brewer, affectionately known to everyone as Jim, of Reidsville, North Carolina, passed away on July 10, 2025, at the age of 59. Born on October 12, 1965, in Charleston, South Carolina, Jim was the son of the late Nancy Carol McClure and Daniel Curtis Brewer Jr.
Jim was a hardworking man who lived life on his own terms and found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He spent many years as a truck driver, a job he took pride in and one that suited his love for the open road. Outside of work, Jim enjoyed camping, surf fishing, and cranking up classic rock—especially AC/DC. He had a passion for collecting swords and eagle memorabilia, drawn to their strength, symbolism, and spirit. Jim also had a deep love for dogs, finding loyal companionship and comfort in their presence throughout his life.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Gloria Fields Brewer; his brother, Curtis Wayne Brewer; his sister, Teresa Brewer Hedrick; his aunt, Karen (Kay) McClure; and his cousin, Kathy Riggs Shelton.
He is survived by his son, Dwayne Mendes (wife Allison), and his two treasured granddaughters, Makayla and Mariah Mendes. He is also lovingly remembered by his nephew Daniel Brewer (wife Holly) of McLeansville, NC; nephew Travis Brewer of Virginia; niece Jessica Parise (Brewer); and nephew Joshua Brewer of Colorado.
Jim leaves behind a close extended family, including cousins Billy Riggs, Kris McClure, Todd Bergantz, Kimberly McClure Gauldin, and Erin McClure Loebs; his Aunt Becky Riggs (married to Roy); Uncle Larry McClure (married to Mary); and many aunts, uncles, and cousins in Charleston, SC.
Those who knew Jim will remember his quiet strength, his love for the outdoors, his deep loyalty to family, and the steady presence he brought to those around him. He had a special ability to connect with people—welcoming everyone into his circle, eager to share a story, a favorite song, or a laugh. His enthusiasm for life was contagious and inspired all who crossed his path.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held to honor his memory, stories, and the many ways he touched our lives. The Celebration of Life will be held for Jim 2:00 PM Saturday, August 23rd at St. Andrews Methodist Church. The address is 1900 W. Vandalia Road Greensboro, NC 27406.
