James Clifton “J.C.” Teachey, died in the company of his family on June 25, 2015 after several years of declining health. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be at 4 PM, June 27, 2015 at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm chapel with Pastor Jason Harvey officiating.
J.C. was born in Duplin County to the late Percy Carroll and Eunice Teachey whom he loved dearly. He graduated from NC State University with a B.S. in Agricultural Education and was a retired landscaper. J.C. met the love of his life, Betty Blue Hoyle, on a blind date in 1970 and would have celebrated forty five wonderful years of marriage in August. He was an involved father to his two daughters, and encouraged and expected the very best of them and for them. His familiar phrase as they would leave the house “remember who you are” was his way of letting them know good behavior was required. J.C. was a man of great faith and lived his life to the glory of God. He and Betty were members of College Place UMC for approximately 15 years. J.C. loved to fish and garden and kept a yard that was showcase worthy. He will be remembered as a kind and gentle man who welcomed people into his home and kept his faith and strength in the face of adversity. His sons-in-law describe J.C. as a fine man with a great sense of humor. He enjoyed the Christmas season surrounded by his family and was an avid NCSU sports fan.
In addition to his wife Betty, he is survived by his daughters and spouses, Jennifer and Don Tate of Elon and Angie and Jamey Bradham of Mount Pleasant, SC; granddaughter, Lucy Bradham; sisters Helen Englert of Jacksonville Beach, FL; Carolyn Fish of New Bern and Linda Williams and husband Wayne of Chesapeake, VA; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Teachey of Beaufort, Mary Hoyle of Greensboro and Martha Snavely and husband Grant of Greensboro; and several nieces and nephews. His brother, Wilbur and brother-in-law, Bob Fish, preceded him in death.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675 or College Place UMC, 509 Tate St, Greensboro, NC 27403. Online condolences may be made to www.haneslineberryfuneralhomes.com.
