James Ival Coke, 87, of Greensboro, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 27, 2021. His two daughters Shirley Hanson & Shelia Coke, along with his grandson Mitch Hanson - were by his side.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Hanes-Lineberry - N. Elm Chapel officiated by Pastor Jeff Scronce. A graveside service will be held Monday, August 2, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Guilford Memorial Park with Military Honors.
Friends and family will receive visitors on Friday, July 30, 2021 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Hanes Lineberry 515 North Elm Street Greensboro, NC.
Jim was born March 15, 1934 in Mt. Airy, the son of Jesse and Maggie McMillan Coke.
Jim was retired from Dow Corning Corporation after many years of service. He was best known as an avid outdoorsman in his free time. He was an original founder & member of THE WEEKENDERS CLUB at Buggs Island/Kerr Lake - where his wife and children spent time boating - fishing – skiing and vacationing. His other passions were hunting and fishing with good friends at Camp Bryan in Havelock, NC. He was a member of BASSMASTERS and competed in many tournaments.
Jim and his wife Janet enjoyed many years of traveling the world together. Though their adventures took them many places around the globe - his favorite was still the Grand Canyon. Jim always had a good joke to share and will be remembered as a man of honor & respect. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Shirley Hanson of Greensboro and Shelia Coke of Hollywood Beach, FL. and his grandson Mitch Hanson. His younger sister, Linda Carolyn Eagle of Greensboro and brother, Jesse and wife Ann Coke of Welcome. The entire Coke Family of nephews, nieces and their children. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Janet Harris Coke, his sisters Pauline White and Opal Smith and his brother Melvin Coke
The family asks with gratitude that memorials be made to the AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION in the name of James Coke.
