Dr. James W. Geyer, 68, a resident of Greensboro died Sunday April 21, 2013 following a period of declining health. He was born September 7, 1944 in Eau Claire, WI, the son of Paul Washington and Ardis Veronica Ward Geyer.
A graduate of Eastern Michigan University with a doctorate degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine; Dr. Geyer began his career in Burlington, NC in 1975 as Director and Vice President for Immunology and Paternity for Biomedical Reference Labs (the predecessor of LabCorp). He was founder and CEO of Genetic Design of Greensboro which merged with Genzyme Corp.
Doctor Geyer was Vice President of Roche Image Analysis Systems, Autocyte and TriPath Imaging of Burlington. He was Vice President of Amplistar International of Winston-Salem. Until his death Doctor Geyer was employed as Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer for Cell Solutions and Select Laboratory Partners of Greensboro.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy of the home; one daughter, Amy Beesley and husband Kenneth of Greensboro; two grandchildren, Max and Klaire Beesley; one sister, Georgieanne Alef and husband James of IL and one brother, Paul Geyer and wife Mary Ellen of MI.
A Service of Blessing will be held Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home N. Elm Chapel with Monsignor Anthony Marcaccio officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
