James "Jay" Degoulard Gwatkin III

James "Jay" Degoulard Gwatkin III, born on June 4, 1948, in Richmond, Virginia to James and Maude Gwatkin.

Jay graduated from Virginia Tech with his master's degree and went on to serve in the Marine Corps Reserve. He later pursued a career as a software engineer with Qorvo. After retiring, he enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife, Marlene.

On May 11, 1996, Jay married Marlene Nielsen. in addition to his wife, He is survived by his only daughter, Mary Gwatkin, and her husband, Jeff White. He also leaves behind his step-sons, John and William Nielsen, and his grandchildren, Austin, Kayla, and Ethan. Jay is also survived by his siblings, Lynn Steedman and her husband John, Carlotta Fugate, and Charles Gwatkin and his wife Robin.

Jay had a love for music and was a talented piano player. He enjoyed life to the fullest, leaving behind a legacy of joy and passion for those who knew him.
