James Kevin Iddings, 62, died unexpectedly Sunday, January 10, 2021, at his residence. A celebration of Kevin’s life will be held at a future date when restrictions are lifted and it is safe to do so. Kevin was born August 26, 1958, in Hinton, WV, son of the late James William (Bill) and Ellen R. Iddings. The family moved to Greensboro in 1970, where Kevin quickly met and made lifelong friends with Tom Hubert, Keith Fuquay, Rick Price and many others. Kevin graduated from Page High School in 1976; and Durham Tech in 1978 with an associate degree in Dental Technology. He was a certified dental technician for 27 years. In 1982, he with the help of his wife Julie started and built a thriving business from the ground up; Iddings Removable Prosthetics. Kevin worked tirelessly “creating smiles” for thirty five years until his retirement in 2017. Kevin loved fishing at Smith Mountain Lake, Gardening, and Carolina Basketball. Kevin instilled in his children the importance of hard work and how lucky they were to have such a wonderful and close family. Kristin inherited his green thumb and they shared a love of gardening. He sometimes coached Cody’s baseball team, but he never missed a game. Kevin had a big heart and treated friends like family. He expected you to “make yourself at home”. He loved to support his children in their endeavors and was endlessly proud of them and made sure to tell them whenever he could. He could be opinionated and stubborn (Iddings traits) but never hesitated to give you that warm winning smile and a big hug. Kevin is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Julie Carter Iddings of the home; children, Kristin Michelle Iddings and Cody James Iddings, both of Charlotte; brothers, Mike Iddings and wife, Vicki, Jeff Iddings and wife, Penny, both of Greensboro; mother-in-law, Dr. Athelene Carter of Thomasville, brothers-in-law, Lester Lee Carter, III and Bob Marlowe, both of Greensboro; sister-in-law, Dr. Suzanne Minarcine and husband Bob of Macon, Ga. and nieces and nephews, Courtney Peters, Jordan, Bryan and Jake Iddings. Also surviving is his loving extended family and many friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 5171 Glenwood Avenue, Suite 101, Raleigh, NC 27612. Or Restaurant Workers Relief Fund, P.O. Box 896713, Charlotte, NC 28289.

I first met Kevin in high school. Julie was one of my very best friends. I remember most Kevin's smile and his penchant for harmless mischief. High school is a time of strong feelings - you are the only person in the world (in your mind), and every heartbeat and breath revolves around the people with whom you surround yourself. I was blessed to have known many people worthy of my youthful passion and heart during those years - not the least of which were Kevin and Julie Iddings. The earth is a poorer without you, Kevin.

Julie, Kristen and Cody:
Praying that God will give you all comfort and strength during this time of sorrow. Kevin was a kind man and I always enjoyed talking with him at Athelene’s house at some of her holiday gatherings. He always came in with a big smile for all.
He will be missed by all.

Julie,
Our deepest sympathy to you and the family. We all came of age together and then started our own families. We shared so many fun times, especially the beach trips! You are in our thoughts and prayers, now and always.
All our love,

Dear Julie,
My heart breaks for you and the kids. I am so sorry he left so soon. Kevin always had a smile and was full of laughter. I will cherish having known him. Having fun every time I would bring Braelyn by to see both of you. You would have him rolling on the floor laughing uncontrollably. I want to thank you for sharing Kevin with him as well. I know he will be truly saddened to hear about the loss of his Big Teddy bear friend. I don't think I ever shared that the first time he met the two of you. Thats what he called Kevin.. he said he looked like a Big Teddy Bear. Someone who you could call your friend from the moment you met him. Sending love to you ❤ prayers for you Julie , Cody and Kristin .
