James (Jim) Bernard McDearmon, 72, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. Jim was born on August 13, 1946 in Lynchburg, VA, the son of James Bernard McDearmon, Sr. and Louise Thurmond McDearmon. Jim was raised in Amherst, VA. He loved his homeplace on the farm, the newspaper company his parents owned, school, and grew quite passionate about music during his high school years where he played the French Horn and the piano.
Receiving a Bachelor of Science in Education from Concord University in West Va., Jim made his way to NC to begin his career. He began working at Pfizer Pharmaceutical in 1977 and retired from the same company but under the name Vertellus in 2009. Jim loved his job as a Raw Materials & Finished Goods Coordinator. He had many work friends during his career and continued to meet with the other retirees on a monthly basis for lunch.
Jim was an avid sports fan but especially loved the Boston Red Sox, many family vacations were trips to Fla. for spring training and then to Fenway Park in Boston. He coached little league baseball for several years for Greensboro Parks and Recreation.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Patti Scheff McDearmon of 38 years, sons: Thomas Blair McDearmon (Whitney) and William Blake McDearmon, all of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Elizabeth Nicole, Lana Jane and Addison Grace; brother, Marion F. McDearmon (Nancy) of Amherst, VA and sister, Virginia Ellis (Robert) Of Greenville, NC and four much loved cats, Petey, Leonardo, Pippi and Oakley.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel with burial follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends following the committal at the funeral home.
