Mr. James William Patterson

Mr. James W. Patterson, 89, of Greensboro, passed away after a brief battle with cancer on Monday, December 3, 2012.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Lakeview Memorial Park.

Mr. Patterson was born December 12, 1922. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for six years and was stationed at Pearl Harbor when it was bombed. He retired from P. Lorillard in 1990 after 30 years of service. He had a passion for reading, airplanes and motorcycles.

Mr. Patterson was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Patterson, his parents, Everett and Donnie Patterson, three brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Patterson is survived by his daughter, Patsy Pickett and husband, Lewis, brothers, Bill (Dot) Patterson and Harry (Sue) Patterson, grandsons, Brien (Lisa) Smith and Joe (Charlotte) Pickett, 8 great-grandchildren, step-daughter, Brenda (Tommy) Jackson, and special friend, Helen Jones.

The family thanks Hospice for their care and kindness to Mr. Patterson. Also, to all the family and friends who helped during his illness and made things so much more easy and comforting.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home N. Elm St.

Patsy, I was so sorry to hear about your dad. He was one of the sweetest men I had the pleasure of knowing. He always had a joke for every occasion. He was a really great friend to mom. He will be missed!!
