James “Jim” Hugh Thomas, Jr., 71, of Greensboro, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Moses Cone Hospital. Born on November 11, 1950, in Greensboro, he was the son of the late James H. Thomas, Sr. and Mildred Stafford Thomas. Jim was passionate about his family, career, friends, and Carolina sports. He put 110% into everything he did in life, and to know him was to love him. In high school, he was a phenomenal athlete and played baseball, basketball, football, golf, and swimming. He attended Appalachian State University on a football scholarship. Jim worked for 31 years with the Guilford County EMS. This career gave him so much joy and allowed him to train and mentor many people, and he saved countless lives during this time. Jim was responsible for starting the EMS Old Timers, a group that meant so much to him. Jim loved his family and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He took pride in loving and caring for his family and was affectionately called “Poppy” by his grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his wife of 12 years, Jerri Thomas; son, James Matthew “Matt” Thomas, step-sons Jeffrey Warren and wife Lauren, and Andrew Bilisoly and wife Elizabeth; four grandchildren, James L. Thomas, Emerson Dishon, Lucas Warren, and Emerson Warren; and numerous friends and co-workers who all loved Jim dearly.
