He was one of several children of the late James and Ella Leggett Hamilton, all of whom have preceded him in death. After graduating from Baxley High School in 1941 he served in the US Navy attaining the rank of Petty Officer First Class. While riding an elevator one day, Jim met Elizabeth Newnam, who he discovered shared the same interests of finance, education and politics. They were married in 1946 and have been inseparable since. Jim graduated from Guilford College in 1953. He and Elizabeth had successful careers in the field of finance, Jim as a realtor and financial advisor. He retired from Payne-Weber. Travelling together throughout the US was one of their favorite pastimes and Jim loved nature and working in his yard.
A service to celebrate Jim’s life will be at 2 PM, January 4, 2017 at Masonic and Eastern Star Home Chapel with Chaplain Peter Overcash officiating. The family will receive friends during a reception following the service at Whitestone. Jim will be entombed at Lakeview Memorial Park.
